amco Bandai Games released some new details about Afro Samurai today, the game featuring a mix of hip-hop and traditional Japanese cultures. We saw a glimpse of the game at the 2007 Video Game Awards, but other than that Afro Samurai has had a stealthy development process. As many know, the game is based on the animated series starring and co-produced by Samuel L. Jackson. Afro’s tale is one of revenge as the
game follows him on his quest to find his fathers murderer. The man who murdered his father now holds the title of the number one warrior, the position his father used to hold and Afro intends to take back. The game follows the plot of the original animated series, but adds enough new content to keep it fresh.
“Afro Samurai’s unique mash-up of urban hip hop culture with traditional Japanese aesthetics and innovative combat mechanics provides a fresh new approach to the action adventure genre,” said Todd Thorson, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Namco Bandai Games America. “Afro Samurai delivers an episodic experience with addictive, immersive and compelling gameplay that’s literally dripping in style.”
Although little other details are given, the stylization and overall aesthetics of the game are what is most intriguing. They revealed that enemy A.I is even affected by the beat of the in-game music – which RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan produced. The title is an action game at heart and is very heavy on combat. Supported by some puzzle and platforming basics, the game is in development for both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
Nobody describes this game better than their makers. In Afro Samurai – Blood is beautiful. We will keep you updated as new information comes out.
