icrosoft recently said that it would be giving Xbox Live users a free Arcade download as an apology for recent problems with the service. Today, the company announced on the Gamerscore Blog that the free game is the recently released underwater shooter, Undertow. The game usually sells for 800 Microsoft Points—about $10. All Xbox Live users—Gold and Silver—will be able to download the full version Undertow at no cost starting next Wednesday at 2:00 a.m. PST through that Sunday at 11:59 p.m. PST. Major Nelson announced on his blog that users who already purchased the game should contact Xbox Live support, and they'll be "taken care of."

It’s great to see the free game is relatively new (and good). The inevitable wave of new owners will be a boon to anyone who has been enjoying the game’s multiplayer action. More users means more opportunities to check out the 2-16 player action.
