Mental-illness Group Weighs In On Manhunt 2

ith controversy-courting Manhunt 2 grabbing headlines everywhere since its Halloween release, it’s no surprise that it’s drawn the ire of several organizations, too. The National Alliance on Mental Illness has issued a news release condemning the game, saying, “… it unfortunately perpetuates and reinforces cruel, inaccurate perceptions that people who live with mental illnesses are violent. The U.S. Surgeon General has condemned such stigmatization, identifying fear of stigma as a major barrier to people getting help when they need it. The overall contribution of mental illnesses to violence in society is exceptionally small. In fact, people living with mental illness are far more likely to be victims of violence.”

The group wants to see the game recalled or further modified, and asks retailers not to sell it to anyone. NAMI was founded in 1979 with a mission to eradicate mental illnesses and improveme the quality of life of all whose lives are affected by mental-health issues.
