hile Sony says that they're on track to ship one million PlayStation 3 consoles by the end of 2006, Electronic Arts' CEO Larry Probst believes different. During today's Reuters Media Summit Probst stated that he believes the company only had 200,000 consoles at launch, which is much different than the 400,000 consoles Sony promised to have ready on day one. Sony hasn't revealed an actual launch number.
By the end of 2006 Probst believes Sony will ship 500,000 to 800,000 units. While these numbers are low, Probst stated that console and game sales are generally slow during a launch because of supply issues, and that a clear winner won't be known for as long as five years.
