50-Hour Charity Gaming Marathon Announced

e are always on the lookout for quality charity events sponsored by entities in the video-game realm, and today another good one came to our attention. Platform Nation announced a new charity drive – dubbed Playapalooza ’08 – which will initiate on August 14. The event takes the form of a 50-hour gaming marathon which will benefit Child’s Play – an organization that gives video games to hospitalized children worldwide.

During the 50-hour marathon participants will play games in 30-minute increments – all of which will be streamed on ustream.tv. Each segment will feature information about the game currently being played and the donor company associated with the title. Users will be able to watch each of the games being played and chip in their own donations along the way.  At the end of the event, all of the games will be collected and the proceeds will be given to Child’s Play during this years Penny Arcade Expo.

You can watch the live feed of the event here (starting August 14), where you can also make your own donation towards the cause.
