ccording to Enterbrain, Nintendo’s latest handheld device, DSi, has sold 170,779 units in its first 48 hours starting November 1 in Japan.
Unveiled last month, the ¥18,900 ($179) DSi is Nintendo’s third iteration of the Dual Screen gaming device. Unlike the original, bulkier Dual Screen and the slimmer, brighter DS Lite, DSi features two cameras – an outward-facing 3-megapixal camera and a smaller, inward-facing camera. DSi also boasts a built in web browser, music playback, SD card storage, photo editing software, and larger and brighter dual screens. To make room for the new functionality, Nintendo removed the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot.
If current figures from Japan are any indication of how Nintendo’s latest will sell in the rest of the world, it might be a good idea to preorder one yourself. DSi will see a European release in Spring 2009 followed by a North American Summer and Australian Fall release.
