Bad Company Conquest Mode Coming August 7

attlefield fans rejoice – on August 7 you will have a new way to play online. The Sweden-based DICE team just released details about Conquest mode – which will be available as a free download for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on Thursday.

Conquest mode first debuted in Battlefield 1942, and pits players against each other in a race to eliminate the opposing team via a capture-the-flag-esq mechanic. Once a team captures a control point, it gains the advantage by being able to re-spawn in that area. The opposite is also true. When a team looses a control point, they can’t re-spawn in that location. Loose all the control points, and they can’t re-spawn at all. For this reason, maintaining control over flags is key because it allows your team to spawn close to the battle for offensive pushes.

The new mode will be paired with four redesigned maps that are currently available in Gold Rush mode in order to give them a new playground to try out Conquest. Each map has been upgraded with new lighting and weather effects.

The announcement of Battlefield’s Conquest mode comes at an opportune time considering this week’s less-than-stellar game line-up. Between Braid and this new mode – DLC seems to be the way to go.
