National Lampoon Plans UMD Support

ational Lampoon and Genius Products have set June 14, 2005 as the street date for the release of National Lampoon Presents The Best of The Romp Volume 1 and National Lampoon’s Tooned Up, the first two National Lampoon-branded titles to be released under an agreement between the companies.

Capitalizing on National Lampoon’s proven appeal to young men, which make up a significant percentage of both the DVD and videogame markets, both titles will be available in DVD format and in the new Universal Media Disc (UMD) format for play on Sony’s new PlayStation Portable. The DVDs and UMDs, with running times of approximately 60 minutes, will retail at SRP $14.99.

National Lampoon’s animations are all the rage—from campus dormitories to corporate computer desks. The best of them are now available in collections of the funniest, wildest, raciest comedian and cartoonist creations.

“We are thrilled to have licensed the rights to distribute content on UMD,” said Trevor Drinkwater, CEO at Genius Products. “There’s nothing better than edgy, new technology to reach the growing generation of young men who play video games—a generation that enjoys National Lampoon animations every week on television and the Internet. Now they can laugh all the way to their next game competition with National Lampoon on their PSP.”
