It’s Official: Rock Band Is Hitting The Wii This June

armonix and MTV Games today confirmed what EA CEO John Riccitiello perhaps inadvertently leaked last month: Rock Band is coming out on the Wii, joining the ranks of the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It’s set for a June 22 release date with a suggested price of $169.99 for the special-edition bundle. Better still, standalone instruments will be available that day, too, so people only interested in getting their drums on won’t have to splurge and buy the whole setup or wait for individual gear, like everyone else had to when the game shipped last November.

Of course, the big question we had last month was how the game would handle downloadable content, one of the game’s main selling points. We spoke with an MTV Networks representative and was told that the game wouldn’t include any DLC functionality. Ultimately, Wii owners can expect to see a game similar to the PlayStation 2 port, which removed much of the character customization and stripped away the Band World Tour mode’s RPG-light elements. Still, the official announcement teased that the game would feature 63 songs, including “five bonus songs for Wii gamers to enjoy.” Could that mean remixes of classic Nintendo tracks? Stranger things have happened…
