uncom boasted a noteworthy bit of news this morning – the Collector’s Edition of Age of Conan has completely sold out in all markets. Since the announcement of the collector’s edition back in January, the item has repeatedly topped retail charts with pre-order sales. Additional boxes were made to compensate for areas that sold out quickly – only to eventually be sold out as well. At this point no additional runs will be made, leaving pure luck the only chance for collectors to get their hands on the collector’s edition at retail locations. The standard edition of Age of Conan is fairing quite well also. Funcom will ship 700,000 copies of the anticipated MMO on launch day, an impressive number for a PC game.
“Everyone in Funcom is delighted and humbled with the historical pre-order numbers for Age of Conan. If the information we have is correct, they represent the highest pre-order number for any global launch of an original PC game, ever, including the original World of Warcraft launch,” said Morten Larssen, Funcom’s VP of Sales & Marketing.
Snuggled at the end of the cozy press-release was a bit of news not quite in the same light-hearted vein as the above. According to Funcom, the DirectX 10 version of Age of Conan will not launch this week as originally intended. The company decided to ship the DirectX 9 version solo, explaining that more time is necessary to make “a DirectX 10 version worth of Microsoft’s great vision for the future of PC gaming.” Instead, the DirectX 10 version will premier at Leipzig in August of this year.
