Director Zack Snyder Signs Deal With EA

oes the name Zack Snyder ring a bell? If not already familiar with his work, you will be hearing his name pop at an increasing rate in the near future. News just broke that the film director – most recently known for working on Dawn of the Dead, 300, and Watchmen – will be making three original games for EA’s L.A. studio. It is believed that the move is similar to EA’s partnership with Steven Spielberg – which so far has resulted in the creation of Boom Blox.

Via Variety we learned more details. EA will get to keep rights to the properties created by Snyder. In addition, there is an understanding that the resulting work will likely be translated to film by Snyder’s studio – Cruel & Unusual films.

Many of us are scared at the thought of more movies bastardizing our beloved video-game franchises – but in this particular situation EA and Snyder may be at an advantage. Perhaps creating a new IP with the understanding that in needs to translate as both a video game and movie will help to steer the partners in the right direction.
